- Basavaraj Bommai has been named the new Chief Minister of Karnataka.
- He is considered the most trusted aide of BS Yediyurappa.
- Bommai is the son of former Chief Minister SR Bommai, who left the Janata Dal (Secular) and joined the BJP.
He is the second son of a chief minister to hold any executive position in the state.
HD Kumaraswamy was the first such Chief Minister of Karnataka.
Bommai’s name came out like this.
Yediyurappa had suggested Basavaraj’s name for the chief minister’s post in the legislature party meeting.
Before his name was released, Dharmendra Pradhan and Kishan Reddy met with Karnataka BJP in-charge Arun Singh in a core committee meeting.
After the meeting, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had said, “BS Yediyurappa, R. Ashok, KS Eshwarappa, B. Sriramulu, ST Somashekar, and Poornima Biswas have proposed the name of the new leader. Basavaraj Bommai is the new leader of the legislature party and the new leader. Will be the chief minister.”
Soon after, Bommai received Yeddyurappa’s blessings, and other party officials congratulated him.
Apart from this, many leaders including, BJP’s Karnataka in-charge Arun Singh, state chief Nalin Kumar Kateel and national general secretary CT Ravi were present.
